Eastern Shore Affiliate Challenge

On Saturday, May 30th, 2015, we will invite all CrossFit gyms from the Delmarva peninsula to the 10th Eastern Shore Affiliate Challenge (ESAC for short!)
We are really pumped about this event, as all of them to-date have been freaking amazing. This event blends friendly competition, teamwork, and a party atmosphere together. This is the first time that we have hosted the event, since we just moved into our new bigger space!
The event will consist of an individual competition in the morning, including three workouts that will test endurance, strength, and work capacity, along with skill and grace under pressure. In the afternoon we will transition into a team competition, where each gym will be competing to take home the coveted ESAC Trophy!
Please check this page out for further updates, as well as the ESAC Facebook page, and let me know at ryan@crossfitkentisland.com if you are interested in participating or helping to judge workouts in the morning.
It’s going to be a blast!

Battle at the Box: Fight For Brian

On Saturday, November 22nd 2014, we held our first annual in-house competition, and used the occasion to raise money for a very important cause – to help one of our own. Brian Stump was diagnosed early this year with Polyarteritis Nodosa (PAN), a brutal disease that attacks the nervous and circulatory systems. Brian is fighting the disease with chemo treatments, among other things, and has racked up an impressive amount of debt due to his insurance not covering his claims. We pledged to help Brian financially with 100% of the tickets sold and every penny of donations that came in, and that amounted to an amazing total of $9,571.87! Couple that with the inspirational support and love we showed to Brian and his family, and I feel so blessed to be a part of this community we have built over the last 2+ years.

I think we have proven again, as so many others have before us, that with a little bit of organization and passion for service, we can help each other out in a major way, and we never have to fight alone.

Blasting for the Brave – September 6, 2014

We had a great opportunity to sponsor the Blasting for the Brave skeet shooting competition on Saturday, September 6th 2014.  This event was put on by CPT Ferris Butler, US Army (ret.) and his wife Laura.  Ferris lost both of his lower legs in an IED explosion in Iraq, and since then has championed causes for wounded vets, most notably Project Healing Waters.  This charity provides disabled veterans an opportunity to learn fly fishing, a very restorative practice for them.  Blasting for the Brave benefits Project Healing Waters, as well as the Pat Tillman Foundation.
Denee and I and the kids had an amazing time at Blasting for the Brave – the food and entertainment were great, and I got a chance to shoot some skeet for the first time in a long while!  Definitely looking forward to next year, we’ll have to get a big group together to head out there!
